HDD is a magnetic storage device that is working mechanically with disk and arm, and its data access time is very long.  Because it is considerably slower than CPU and DRAM in a computer system, it has become a bottleneck for the entire system.  Unlike HDD, SDD is a revolutionary next-generation electronic storage device that provides fast access speed (< 0.1 ms), excellent reliability and very low power consumption.

The main components of SSD are flash memory chips and its controller. The speed of a single flash memory is less than 10 MB/s so it is not suitable for being used as a storage device in high end computer systems. Simply combining multiple flash memory chips will not create a high performance disk.
